Get Started with Grok Bot
This guide takes you from install to your first finished task. You'll set up the desktop app, create an AI teammate with a clear job, and review its work.
Before You Begin
You need an eligible plan: Premium, Super, or Ultra on The X Subscription, or a paid Cursor plan (Individual or Teams). Grok Bot needs cloud data storage, so accounts on Privacy Mode (Legacy) are prompted to switch to modern Privacy Mode before starting.
1. Install the Desktop App
Get the installer from the Grok Bot page of the Cursor dashboard (cursor.com/dashboard/bot) or from x.ai/bot. The app runs on macOS (Apple silicon and Intel), Windows (x64 and Arm64), and Linux (x64 and Arm64) and checks for updates automatically. On mobile, install Grok Bot from the App Store or Google Play.
2. Sign In
Choose Sign in on the welcome screen and finish authentication in your browser. Grok Bot uses your Cursor account. If your organization uses single sign-on (SSO), sign in through your normal company flow.
3. Meet Your First Bot
After signing in, Grok Bot sets up your first Bot named Grok Bot. Give each Bot one primary job in its first message and ask it to remember how it should work. A focused Bot builds more useful context than a catch-all helper:
“Your job is product performance. Investigate product-performance questions with our observability tools. Preserve links and screenshots, separate evidence from hypotheses, and lead with the highest-impact issue. Never change production settings. Remember this for future work.”
4. Give It a First Task
Type in the composer, or dictate with Start voice input (Cmd/Ctrl+D on desktop). A strong request states the outcome, sources that matter, constraints, and deliverable:
“Summarize this document in five bullets. List every date, decision, and open question in a separate section, and cite the section for each item. Don't change the source file.”
5. Sign In to the Tools It Needs
When the Bot reaches an app that requires authentication, it uses a login saved in Vault or a connected password manager, or asks you for it with a Secure Form. The Bot never sees the raw password, and the signed-in session persists on your cloud microVM. For SSO or passkeys, click Open computer, finish that step yourself, and return control.
6. Review the Result and Make It Stick
Ask for revisions, and name lasting preferences explicitly. When the process is stable, save it as a skill or routine. Keep consequential external changes behind Auto Review.
